Scene

"You make mistakes, everyone does." Damien assured. "The difference is made by not letting the mistake consume you." He chuckled patting Zero on the back, despite Zero's persistent seriousness. "That's the key."

"What if it's too late?" Zero spoke quickly and lowly, as if his words were venom shooting precisely to aim at his own heart.

"It's never too late." Damien corrected him just as quickly.

Zero clenched his fists and stood up from where he was sitting. "You're wrong. Sometimes you don't have the time to resist your mistakes, sometimes your mistakes consume you and you can't fight back."

"You need to stop giving up." Damien's own voice lowered slightly, barely noticiable. "You can always fight back."

Zero ran his hands back through his hair frustrated with a growl. "What kind of satisfaction do you get from me not giving up?" He punched the wall and swiftly turned his gaze back to Damien. "I don't know why you always persist on me to keep fighting. As if me finding some way to become less damned and atone for my wrongs is going to cure you as
well. It's not going to, because it'll never happen for either of us...I don't know why you have this faith that it will."

Damien's eyes narrowed, serious and stern. "It's not a faith, I'm not religious or even that sure of what you're capable of, it's a hope. Because you are the last part of me that's human and once you give up, what am I? I don't like to think about it...but I'm just a corpse...so forgive me for trying to covet my humanity brother..."

"No part of us is human anymore Damien...we lost that right when we were asked if we wanted to live or die..." He shook his head and sat down on the couch. "Stupidly and greedily we asked to live. What right did we have to ask that?"

"Every right, everyone fears death."

"And now we're what everyone fears..." Zero said coldly, unlike himself. Permanent. "We are the reason people can't sleep at night. We're death, we're grim reapers without mercy. We have no right to take life but we do and the power to give life but we never use it. We will..." his eyes shut. "We will be at the deathbeds of the angels in our lives instead of lying beside them; never to sleep, never to dream. And when we turn to ash, that's all it is...ash."
